Χριστίνα Σγουρομύτη
Christina Sgouromiti (Athens, 1976) graduated from the Painting department of Camberwell College of Art, London Institute. In 2004 she acquired her master degree in Drawing at the same college. She has worked extensively with artists’ groups and cross-field collaborations, mainly in the form of site-specific installations. (AREA10, ARTIVISTS, under construction group, Locus Solus intermedia, Christian Boltanski). She has had solo shows in Clarion Contemporary Art (2005) and Manifactura (2007) and she has participated in numerous group shows in Athens and London. Her work unfolds around the reconstruction of imagery, objects and notions, in ways that acquire new symbolic values. The disconnection of such elements from their original frame, their appropriation and subsequent integration into new relational systems, reveals the ambivalence of the signified and favours alternative readings of the representations. Currently, she is a PhD candidate at the Academy of Fine Arts, Athens, collaboratively with the University of the Aegean. She lives and works in Athens.
